What AMITA is
AMITA — the American Muslim IT Association — is a United States network for Muslim technology professionals. We exist because being the only Muslim on an engineering team is more common than it should be, and because the people who have already navigated that have knowledge worth sharing.
Members work across software engineering, data, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud and IT, product and design, research, health technology, and technology leadership — from students and career changers through to founders and executives.
What we do
- Networking — connecting Muslim technologists to each other across companies and cities.
- Mentorship — pairing people earlier in their careers with those further along. See the mentorship programme.
- Events — meetups, tech talks and workshops. See events.
- Career resources — practical guidance on situations our members actually face, published on our blog.
- Advocacy — for religious accommodation and inclusion in technology workplaces.
Where we are today
AMITA is early and volunteer-run. We publish what we are actually doing rather than what we hope to do: some programmes are live, others are in development and marked as such. We do not publish member counts, partner logos or outcomes we cannot evidence.
Who runs AMITA
AMITA was founded by Mohsin Sardar, PhD, who also writes much of the material on this site. AMITA is currently forming a board and advisory group; we will publish names here once those roles are filled and each person has consented to be listed.
If you would like to help build this, we are actively looking for volunteers, including board and advisory members.
