Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 August 2026
AMITA (the American Muslim IT Association), a community initiative of the CHERAF Foundation, operates muslimitassociation.org. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
We keep this deliberately short because we collect very little. We do not sell your information, we do not share it with advertisers, and we have no member accounts.
What we collect
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address, and optionally first and last name | Only if you subscribe to our newsletter | To send community updates, event invitations and career resources |
| Your name, email and whatever you write to us | Only if you email us, for example about volunteering | To reply and to coordinate your involvement |
| Usage data: pages viewed, approximate region, browser and device type, referring site | Automatically, on every visit | To understand which content is useful and improve the site |
We do not ask for, and you should not send us, sensitive personal information such as government identifiers or financial details.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of third-party services to run the site. Each receives only what it needs, and each has its own privacy policy:
- Mailchimp (Intuit) — stores our newsletter list and sends the emails. It receives your email address and name if you subscribe. Their privacy statement.
- Google Analytics (Google) — measures site usage. It receives usage data and sets cookies in your browser. Their privacy policy.
- Netlify — hosts the website and processes standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability. Their privacy policy.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone, and we do not share it for advertising purposes.
Cookies and analytics
Google Analytics sets cookies to recognise returning visitors and count sessions. These are not required for the site to work. You can block or delete them in your browser settings at any time, or install Google’s opt-out add-on.
How long we keep it
Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to handle your request and for reasonable follow-up. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ standard retention period.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email we send. This removes you from the list immediately.
- Ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — email us and we will action it.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, or California) you may have additional rights to access, delete, correct, or object to our use of your information. We apply these rights to everyone who asks, regardless of location, and we will not treat you differently for exercising them.
Children
This site is intended for professionals and students aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and we limit collection to the minimum described above. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but because we hold so little, there is very little to expose.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Material changes will also be announced in the newsletter.
